Yeeeehaw!

To celebrate Spring Break we went to Thanksgiving Point this afternoon and visited with cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, goats, turkeys (they kind of freak me out), bunnies, horses and there was even a burrow. Lilly got to go on a pony ride, it wasn't her favorite thing. She was a little nervous and cried the entire time. We couldn't stop the ride because then all of the other kids would have to stop too. Lilly kept saying "I'm all done, I want to hold Mommy!" It was so sad to see her upset, but she was still so adorable. To make up for the pony ride all of us went on a horse drawn wagon ride! Lilly loved it, she enjoyed how bumpy it was and kept telling the horses they were doing a good job. She also said a few times "This is so much fun, I love the trailer ride!" Mike has a trailer that he hooks up to the jeep to haul things and sometimes Lilly gets to ride in it to the front yard while Mike pulls it. So she kind of related the wagon and trailer together, I do say Mike is almost as strong as a horse. Overall we had a wonderful time at Thanksgiving Point. It's been nice having Mike around over Spring Break and I will be sad to see it end next week.
Mike starts up Spring Term on Tuesday, and is planning on going to Summer Term too. I am proud to announce that Mike recieved all A's in his classes this past semmester. I am very proud of him and I think he is the smartest guy around. Two more years and we will be done with school, I can hardly wait to see what will happen next.

My Train Ride To Lilly

I've been meaning to write about how Lilly came into our hearts and home. Lilly's Aunt Christine posted her cousin's adoption story and inspired me to write Lilly's. As the years go by the memories are fading a little so I thought this would be a good way to preserve them.

A little history first... back in 2001 I had surgery. At that time I was diagnosed with a disease called endometriosis. It is a sometimes painful and debilitating illness, the surgeon showed Mike and I pictures of the many growths I had on my reproductive organs. He was able to cut and burn the majority of them out and told us we shouldn't have issues with getting pregnant. Although, I still had some endo in places he couldn't surgically remove and some of the cysts he tried to remove he couldn't get it all. Fast forward to 2004 we purchased our first home in May of 2004. We also decided to actively start trying to conceive. Since I have endometriosis we thought it would be best to consult with a reproductive specialist. We hadn't been doing anything to prevent getting pregnant for about a year so it made sense to get things checked out. Well after many blood draws, tests, synthetic hormones and several disappointing appointments the specialist decided that the only option left for us was to do IVF. He also diagnosed me with PCOS, insulin resistance, Endo and a negative RH factor. We were so frustrated and I was DONE with synthetic hormones so we turned our hearts over to Heavenly Father and asked him to guide us. I cancelled the IVF treatments and scheduled an intake interview with LDS Family Services.

We were approved to adopt November 7, 2005 Mike and I decided to start a family website and I attempted to make a quilt to help the time go by. It also helped to do something since we had been working so hard with the fertility treatments before I felt like I needed to be doing things. We celebrated Christmas in two states that year. Mike's dad gave us tickets to fly to Utah to visit my family. We spent the morning with Mike's family and the evening with mine. It was a lot of fun; we got to spend some time with my cousin who had a brand new baby. I remember complaining to everyone that we were still waiting and hadn't heard anything... but longing to have a brand new baby too.

After returning home to Washington from our Christmas trip our Caseworker called! A birthmother was looking at our profile and she was scheduled to deliver on January 15th by c-section. It was about 3 weeks away so she wanted to make sure that was ok. OF COURSE IT WAS! About a week later we still hadn't heard back so we figured that we didn't get picked. During this time I kept having baby dreams; I can remember one in particular. I dreamt of a baby girl with brown hair, I was very upset and searching for baby socks. I had an entire drawer full of mismatched baby socks in my dream and I couldn't find a match, but I kept searching and didn't give up, until my alarm went off.... the next day I received a call from our caseworker. The birthmother liked our profile, but wanted more information. She asked us to send her individual biographies, oh and can you send them to me in a few hours. Mike and I both stopped working, Mike skipped a meeting and I locked my office door and turned out the light so people wouldn't know I was there. We both wrote our biographies and I e-mailed them to our caseworker. Again, we didn't hear anything and we decided to move on and we probably still didn't get picked.

A week later I was having lunch with my sister (Angie) and I had a feeling that I should bring my cell phone with me (I rarely carried it with me). I received a call while at lunch, it was our caseworker again. She said that a baby girl had been born on Sunday and the Birthmother had chosen us to be her parents! I frantically tried to write all of the information down on a post-it-note, laughed and cried right in the middle of my works cafeteria with my sister there to support me. I ran up to my office and announced to my very supportive boss that I was on maternity leave. I grabbed the phone and called Mike to tell him the wonderful news. Mike answered and I told him that a baby girl had been born last night. He didn't get it, he was like sooooo that means what? I quickly exclaimed to him that we had been chosen to be this baby’s parents! He was thrilled, and I told him to tell his boss and I would come get him and we would go buy some pink stuff for our baby!

At this point I was too wired to drive so luckily Angie was still with me and she drove me to pick up Mike and came with us to go shopping. We bought Lilly a pink fairy princess blanket some onesies and diapers and formula. Later that evening we purchased a gift for Lilly's birthmother and Mike drew a beautiful card for her.

We were told to be at the agency at 10:00 AM the next day. Of course we left the house at 8:00 for the long 30 minute drive :) We were REALLY early so we stopped by at some local shops and looked at baby things. Finally it was time to meet with our caseworker, more paperwork, more waiting. About noon we were instructed to go to the hospital for placement. We drove about another hour and found the hospital. Our caseworker called and asked where we were and I told her we were in the hospital lobby. Our caseworker had gone to the wrong hospital! So she quickly got to the right hospital. We waited and waited in the hospital lobby for the birthmother caseworker and our caseworker to talk with Lilly's birthmother. She still hadn't decided if she wanted to meet us or not. She did decide to meet us and I am so grateful for that decision. She was such a strong woman; she loved Lilly more than anything. I tried to thank her for giving us her baby and she wouldn't accept it. She kept telling us thank you for being good people and she knew we would be awesome parents. When we walked in her hospital room I was sooooo nervous, Lilly's birthmother really put us at ease she even showed us how to change her diaper and also how strong Lilly was at lifting her head while on her belly. She encouraged us to hold Lilly and to go with the nurses to get her weighed and checked before she was discharged. She walked us to our car and we embraced, I snuck in a thank you before she could say otherwise and off we went with baby in tow.

I sat in the back seat next to our new beautiful baby daughter. She was snuggled into her car seat looking very content. I called my Mom and exclaimed that I was a MOM! I cried with pure joy, it was a miracle and the happiest day ever.

We feel like the luckiest people in the world to have been given such an amazing little person to raise as our daughter. Lilly's birthmother is always in our prayers and thoughts. We send her letters and pictures and tell Lilly the things we know about her.

Adoption increased my faith in Heavenly Father's plan. At times it was hard to wait and I often wondered why me? But during those times I often reflect at a quote given by Gorden B. Hinkley “Life is like an old-time rail journey—delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed. “The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride” I thank Heavenly Father daily for giving me the ticket to be Lilly's mommy, she is a beautiful vista and bringing her home on January 10, 2006 was a thrilling burst of speed that I will never forget.

Fun Spring Weather!

We are totally enjoying the spring weather (besides the dusty wind). We had a full house on Saturday. Our good friend, Janelle came for a visit from Washington and Mike's little bro and his family came from Idaho! Mike smoked some ribs (his specialty) we watched the kids play in the pool and just enjoyed everyone's company so much. It is always so refreshing to spend time with loved ones.

Just for kicks and giggles here are a few pictures of the last few days, since that is pretty much what we have been doing all weekend :)

Lilly and Belle had a blast in the pool!

Amanda & Janelle doing a little retail therapy, boy it was windy! :)

One of Lilly's new favorite things to do is to smell flowers. Our plum tree is blooming so we have plenty of beautiful blossoms to smell. The other night I brought a rose home for Lilly and I left it in her room for her to find in the morning when she woke up. She found it, and didn't let go of it for the next three hours! She loved finding her rose, and now is constantly asking to smell any flower she sees.

Lilly loves swinging, her favorite thing to do while she swings is sing songs and try to get Mommy, Daddy or Bryn with her feet.

Last, but not least here is my new favorite picture of Lilly. She is so beautiful and her personality is amazing. She keeps my heart warm and a smile on my face all day.

Sunshine, hard work and Chinese food

We had a very fun and productive weekend. Mike finished our tool shed in the back yard and we cleaned up the patio and yard. Lilly is enjoying the planter box her and Mike made the other day. We are going to plant peas, beans and cherry tomatoes in it. Right now there are a few bean and pea plants. They probably wont make it through this crazy spring weather, but it's fun for Lilly.
We also filled up Lilly's swimming pool to play in, she LOVED that. It was warm enough for both Mike and I to get sunburns too! Lilly had sunscreen on, so she didn't get burned. Of course I forgot to put it on myself, though. I opened up all the windows in the house to let out all of the winter air :) I also got to clean the kitchen to the point of sparkling thanks to Lilly taking a 3 hour nap. I think she was totally worn out from playing so hard in the backyard all morning.

I would have to say that my highlight of the weekend was ordering chinese delivery. Mike and I were both too tired to cook anything for diner and decided to order out. In our almost ten years of being together we have NEVER ordered Chinese delivery. It was a blast to see Lilly's excitment when the delivery driver came and brought the food. Lilly also thought that using chopsticks was the greatest way to eat her chicken she liked the noodles and soup too!

We borrowed the book "Waiting for May" from the library so it was fun to show Lilly that we were eating chinese food, kind of like the food that they eat in China where baby May was from. On a side note I highly recomend this book it was so sweet, infact I cried in a few parts while reading it to Lilly for the first time. Even though we haven't adopted internationally, the feelings of recieving such a gift are similar no matter how you adopt. I can tell Lilly is totally ready for a new baby sister or brother. A few days after reading this book to her she kept yelling out the back door "I want my baby sister!" it is so neat to see her desire to be a big sister too.

After dinner we made homemade ice cream and Lilly loved that too! I love, love, love my ice-cream maker and we use it a lot during the summer. One of our favorite things to make is frozen yogurt, it's a bit healthier and soooo good.

4,000 Visitors, Wow!

It is awesome, we have had 4,000 visits to our website since it's inception in 2005!
We originally started the website to get ourselves out into the world so potential birthparents could learn more about our family and our personalities. A few short months after we started the website we were placed with our beautiful daughter Lilly. The website evolved into more of a photo gallery and news center for all the great things that were going on in our lives. It's now really changed into a fully functioning website with a, photo gallery, our adoption information, archived links to past news entries and our most recent addition a blog where comments can be made from our friends and family.
Thank you to everyone who has taken time to visit our website and please feel free to comment on my blog entries, we love to hear from you!

My secret...

It's 2:00 AM and yes, I am awake. My hair is tousled, my feet are cold, and I am exhausted. I sway in the dark, back and forth, back and forth attempting to sing which in itself is a hard for me to do especially at 2:00 in the morning. A little sign rises from my sweet angel curled up in my arms, I hear a plop and the comfort her binky provided now is my duty. Bounce, sway, bounce sway, bounce sway the magical rhythm for tonight.

As I ever so gently lay my little one in her pink cozy bed I am struck with an emotion so strong, I am a Mother. A thousand other mothers are probably doing this same thing at this exact moment; singing, cuddling, swaying. I belong to a secret society of women whose soul purpose is to wipe tears, comfort, nurture and love. Our duty is to help mold these tiny people into great individuals. I whisper in my daughters ear that I love her and that she is a daughter of God and someday will do marvelous things, sweet dreams...

I love sharing those sacred hours of the night with my child while the rest of the world is sleeping. During those simple moments I get to share my love and my hopes for her. I am often touched with a peaceful feeling knowing that someday these times will be a part of my daughter and someday she will be able to share a secret with her children.

Lotsa pics

Lilly had her first day of tumbling tots last week. She did pretty good considering she is the smallest and youngest kid in the class. Lilly will probably always be the oldest, or youngest in all of her classes growing up. Mike and I decided that it would be good for Lilly to start going to classes with other kids. Ever since a little incident (Lilly was attacked by another 2-year old) in nursery at church she has been really nervous around other kids. I have to help Lilly out a lot in tumbling tots, but I think that she is having fun. Her favorite is the streamers, though. Today she kept chasing her instructor and laughing when she got her, it was cute.

A couple of weekends ago we went to the local museum and learned about animals! We invited Lilly's cousins to come too. We got to go around the museum to different locations and visit with the live animals! Lilly really enjoyed it, and the best part was since we visited all of the live animal exhibits, Lilly got FREE ice-cream. I think that was her favorite part.

mmmm ice cream! Lilly loved it so much she decided to just drink it, using a spoon was taking too long.

One thing that Lilly and I do a few times a month is go to the mall and throw penny's into the fountian. Lilly has a blast and it gets us out of the house for a few hours.

Lilly loves firefighters and is always pretending to be one. Yesterday was such a nice day Mike let Lilly play with the hose outside. Lilly kept trying to spray me, I guess I was looking fire hot :)

My Handy Man

I just wanted to post and say how wonderful it is to have a do-it-yourselfer for a husband. Mike can really fix anything, and he is so darn creative too. He is also an AMAZING daddy, he is so fun and so sweet with Lilly it just fills my heart to see them together.
